The colder weather brings ice and lower temperatures which in turn make people more prone to slipping and falling over.  A&E Departments always brace themselves in January and February for more breaks and fractures and so should First Aiders.

Remember SHOCK masks pain which leads many casualties to believe they have ‘twisted’ a muscle when in fact they may have broken/fractured a bone.

Try to work out the mechanics of injury of the accident. Where and how did they fall? Are they pale and confused when you question them? Remember IF IN DOUBT SHIP THEM OUT!  We don’t want you to waste hospital time but we also don’t want you to allow people to go untreated for breaks and fractures.
