Harberry partner with FAIB to deliver accredited First Aid Training

Harberry Training are pleased to announce that we have partnered with the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) to deliver accredited first aid training as of September 2020. We are delighted to be delivering all our courses in association with the leading industry body in First Aid Training.

Why is there a need for accreditation?

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) announced way back in 1st October 2013, they will no longer be responsible for the monitoring and approvals of the First aid at Work (FAW) and Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualifications.

Consequently, the responsibility to ensure the compliance of Quality Assurance when selecting a suitable Training Provider to deliver accredited First Aid training is that of the Employer.

This has come about because of the Professor Lofstedt review into the role of the HSE which was fully accepted by the Government and is now Government Policy.

Professor Lofstedt has said “The future shape of the first aid training sector going forward is a matter for the industry to determine. I understand that feedback to HSE shows that many Employers will simply seek to find inbuilt assurance similar to what they gained from HSE Approval in whatever guise it is or becomes available”.

“This assurance may be found in a Trade Body Approval and Monitoring scheme”.

“Some training providers may choose to attach themselves to one approval system or another, whilst others may choose to continue as a standalone unit relying on their quality and reputation to secure market share”.

Why FAIB?

The FAIB was founded and is led by Ian Kershaw, MBE who is arguably one of the most respected figures in the First Aid Training industry. Ian has spearheaded the development of the FAIB and provided unrivalled support to training providers within the First Aid Industry over the past 20 years.

Ian was Head of First Aid at HSE (1995-2007) and then created the Federation of First Aid Training Organisations (FOFATO) in 2007 and how he has always promoted the improvement of standards of First Aid training.

The FAIB support First Aid Training organisations through fair and consistent monitoring and a pricing structure which is designed to support both the training organisations and subsequently their end user clients. Some of the other key benefits of being accredited by the FAIB are:

  • Totally Independent
  • Costs are realistic and fair (to both Training Organisation and Employer)
  • More monitoring than the old HSE system
  • Training Organisations issue their own certificates
  • Monitored by Professional and Independent First Aid Inspectors
  • Run by a Management Advisory Panel from across the U.K.
  • The Body will be “Run by the Industry for the Industry”

Harberry Training look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with the First Aid Industry Body, providing the highest quality of training and assurance to our clients over the coming years.
